Pinocchio on Riverton stage
The Riverton Arts Council joyfully presents “My Son Pinocchio, Geppetto’s Musical Tale,” a children’s theatre production. Six performances will be presented at the Sandra N. Lloyd Community Center Auditorium, 12880 South Redwood Rd., Riverton. Evening performances on Oct. 18, 19, 20, and 22 begin at 7 p.m.; a Saturday matinee on Oct. 20 begins at 2 p.m.
The cast includes 75 energetic and highly talented children ages 7 through 15 and a couple of ‘older gentlemen’ from the Salt Lake Valley and adjoining areas. In this two-act musical production, Geppetto finally gets to tell his story.Based upon the book by David I. Stern, this is a charming musical perfect for family members of all ages. The script tenderly portrays the relationship between parents and children and offers life lessons for both. Is it possible that the fairy-tale kingdom’s most famous ‘perfect boy’ Pinocchio, might not measure up to all of his father’s expectations? What would happen if Geppetto could ‘return’ his son when Pinocchio turns out to be less than perfect—well, even human?
Frustrated by all the “bad things” that Pinocchio (played by Adrie Twede) has done, Geppetto (Rex King) asks the Blue Fairy (Cami Twede) to “take him back". Before granting Geppetto’s request, the Blue Fairy and Geppetto journey to Idealville—a place with only prefect children. You know the type—they always mind their parents, get only good grades, and they never, never get dirty. Why, that sounds just like what we all want in our children; doesn’t it? Perhaps; perhaps not. Bring the whole family to see how it turns out.
“My Son Pinocchio” is co-produced by Vicki Wartman and Kim Ostler. Ginger Garn directs with assistant Pam Henderson. Holly King is music director; Vicki Wartman and Trisha Duke, choreographers; Shana Engh is stage manager. Members of the Riverton Arts Youth Council will shadow key production roles for the play.
